Job Summary

Oversees the general education program approved by the UCC and Senate. Responsible for ensuring that appropriate numbers of courses and sections are available for students seeking to complete the general education requirement and that general education courses are of high quality. The Director will work with the UCC to ensure regular review of new and continuing General Education courses and periodic review of the requirements themselves; collaborate with departments, colleges and units such as the First-Year Writing Program, the Writing Center, and the Math department in developing new offerings and ensuring the quality of existing general programming; collaborate with the Director of Assessment to ensure that regular assessment of the general education requirement takes place; work to develop professional development opportunities for faculty teaching general education courses; and serve as an advocate for and source of information about general education for students, faculty and the larger CSU community. The Director will also collaborate with Cleveland State University’s ODHE liaison in helping faculty respond to requests from the state regarding TAG’s, OTM and other transfer-related matters.
Position is 51% faculty and 49% administrative.

Minimum Qualifications

Tenured Associate or Full professor at Cleveland State University; teaching experience in general education courses at CSU; demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in academic position related to general education (such as service on the University Curriculum committee or as an undergraduate Director); prior academic leadership experience; demonstrated knowledge of state transfer policies (e.g., TAG’s, OTM); record of curricular development in general education (such as developing new courses); evidence of active involvement in academic assessment; record of working collaboratively with faculty and staff across disciplinary lines; ability to contribute through teaching and or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.
